Do you make many mistakes while typing? Do you have to correct errors again and again? Here are simple answers to help you type more accurately.

Why do I make so many typing mistakes?

Common reasons for typing mistakes:

  • Using wrong fingers for keys
  • Looking at keyboard instead of screen
  • Typing too fast
  • Not sitting properly
  • Tired or not focused

What is more important - speed or accuracy?

Accuracy is more important than speed. If you make many mistakes, you waste time correcting them. It’s better to type slowly but correctly.

How to reduce typing mistakes?

Use correct fingers for each key

Each key has a correct finger. Don’t use any finger randomly. Using wrong fingers causes mistakes.

Don’t look at keyboard

When you look down, you can’t see what you’re typing. You make mistakes but don’t notice immediately.

Type slower

If you make more than 5 mistakes in 10 lines, you are typing too fast. Slow down. Speed will come later.

Practice difficult keys

Some keys are harder to type. Practice those keys more. Common problem keys are: B, N, Y, T, P

What is a good accuracy level?

  • 90-94% - OK for beginners
  • 95-97% - Good accuracy
  • 98-99% - Very good accuracy
  • 99-100% - Excellent accuracy

For government exams, you need at least 95% accuracy (maximum 5% errors allowed).

How to improve accuracy?

Step 1: Sit properly

  • Sit straight
  • Feet flat on floor
  • Elbows at 90 degrees
  • Screen at eye level

Step 2: Position hands correctly

  • Fingers on home row (ASDF JKL;)
  • Wrists slightly up, not resting
  • Use light touch on keys

Step 3: Focus on screen, not keyboard

Look only at the screen. Trust your fingers to find the keys. This is hard at first but very important.

Step 4: Type at comfortable speed

Don’t rush. Type at a speed where you can maintain 95%+ accuracy.

Check Your Accuracy

Common accuracy mistakes

  • Pressing keys too hard or too soft

  • Not using correct fingers
  • Thinking about speed instead of accuracy
  • Not taking breaks when tired

Tips to type accurately

  • Practice with correct finger placement
  • Keep eyes on screen always
  • Type whole words, not individual letters
  • Take short breaks every 15 minutes
  • Practice when you’re not tired

Use our Practice Mode and:

  1. Set a 5-minute timer
  2. Type slowly and carefully
  3. Try to make zero mistakes
  4. Check your accuracy after test
  5. If below 95%, practice the keys you missed

For exam preparation, use Exam Mode which calculates accuracy like government exams.

What if I keep making mistakes on same keys?

Identify which keys you always miss. Practice only those keys for 5 minutes daily. Our Typing Lessons have special practice for each key.
